Welcome to the Building and Civil Engineering Department at Kieni Technical and Vocational College. Our department is dedicated to equipping trainees with the practical skills and technical knowledge needed to thrive in the ever-evolving construction industry.

We offer a broad range of programs including Plumbing, Building Technology (Masonry), Carpentry and Joinery, Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, and Quantity Surveying. Our Sections

Welcome to the Plumbing Section, where we focus on producing skilled artisans capable of designing, installing, and maintaining water supply and drainage systems. Our training emphasizes practical experience, safety, and innovation, equipping learners with the expertise to meet industry standards and provide sustainable solutions to communities.

Patrick W. Mwangi – Head Section

The Building Technology (Masonry) Section nurtures hands-on skills in walling, concrete works, and finishes. We prepare trainees to handle diverse construction tasks with precision and professionalism. Through practical exposure and adherence to codes of practice, learners become competent masons, ready to deliver quality workmanship in the building industry.

Susan W. Karangu – Head Section

Our Carpentry Section is dedicated to imparting knowledge and skills in timber works, joinery, and furniture making. With a balance of theory and practice, trainees gain competence in designing, constructing, and finishing wood structures. We emphasize accuracy, creativity, and sustainability to prepare learners for rewarding careers in carpentry

Daniel Muriithi – Head Section

The Land Surveying Section provides learners with expertise in measurement, mapping, and data analysis for construction and land development. We integrate modern surveying equipment and techniques to deliver accurate results. Trainees graduate with strong technical foundations, enabling them to support infrastructure projects and contribute to effective land management.

Cyrus Rutto- Head Section

Our Civil Engineering Section prepares learners to design, construct, and maintain essential infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and water systems. With a focus on applied engineering principles, problem-solving, and innovation, trainees gain the technical and practical skills needed to support sustainable development and address modern construction challenges.

Paul W. Maina – Head Section

The Quantity Surveying Section trains learners in cost estimation, contract management, and resource control for construction projects. Emphasizing accuracy, ethics, and efficiency, we equip graduates with skills to ensure value for money in project delivery. Our learners are prepared to support both private and public sector construction ventures.

Course Overview

Building Technology (Level 6 & 5)

Covers construction practices, structural design, and project supervision. Graduates can work as site supervisors, project managers, or start their own construction business.

Focuses on surveying, structural works, and infrastructure development. Graduates qualify for roles in construction firms, consultancy, and government projects.

Covers woodwork, furniture making, and building joinery. Graduates can work in carpentry workshops, construction sites, or start businesses in woodcraft.

Training in water supply, drainage, and sanitation systems. Equips graduates for plumbing installation, maintenance, and self-employment.

Basic plumbing skills for entry-level installation and repairs. Suitable for those seeking trade certification or apprenticeship opportunities.

Supervisory training in concrete works, site safety, and quality assurance. Prepares graduates for leadership roles in construction projects.

Specialized skills in testing concrete strength and quality. Graduates support construction firms in quality control and assurance.
